, 13 years old, 7th Grade

I was bullied at my last school, but at Kfar Silver I feel safe. I feel like I can be myself, and just by being myself I have made many friends.

I was born in Israel and I grew up in Ashdod, which is a predominantly Russian area. My family is from Russia and moved there when they immigrated to Israel to be a part of a Russian community.

I like living in Ashdod, but some of our schools are very bad. In my first school, I was not able to take the high-level science and math classes I was interested in. Additionally, the teachers gave preferential treatment to certain students whose families had donated money to the school. I didn’t think that kind of unequal treatment was fair, so I changed schools. My next school ultimately closed because it lost its funding.

My third school in Ashdod was a very difficult school for me for social reasons. I was not able to make friends. On my first day, I started to be bullied by students. On one occasion, I was attacked by a group of six students. It was a very difficult time for me because I didn’t feel safe. I never knew when I was going to be attacked again. The teachers were not supportive, and I really felt alone. No one understood me there.

When I came to Kfar Silver, I saw that it was a blend of cultures and countries and kind people. I felt safer from the second I started here. I made a connection with my homeroom teacher. Even though everyone is different at this school, my teacher respects that everyone is unique and she treats everyone as equals.

This school has changed my life because I can walk down the halls and feel safe. I feel like I can be myself, and just by being myself I have made many friends.

My favorite subject is chemistry. It is a subject that runs in my family. I come from a long line of doctors, including my parents and my two grandmothers. In the future, I want to be an engineer.
