2018 Jurisprudence Award Honorees

David M. Paris
Managing Partner, Nurenberg Paris

David M. Paris is the Managing Partner of Nurenberg, Paris, Heller & McCarthy, a 90 year old law firm that represents consumers and injured persons across the nation. David graduated from Cleveland – Marshall College of Law in 1978 attending the night program and working during the day as a law clerk at Nurenberg, Paris. Over the past 38 years, he has tried several dozen jury trials to verdict and has represented thousands of injured victims as well as 700,000 consumers in class actions. He has developed an expertise in and has successfully litigated complex cases involving wrongful death and catastrophic injuries, which have occurred in a variety of circumstances including defective products, medical negligence, construction sites and workplace injuries and trucking accidents.

David is a member of the Ohio and California Bar and is admitted to practice in several federal district and circuit courts throughout Ohio and California as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of several trial lawyer organizations including the Ohio Association of Justice, the American Association of Justice and the Cleveland Academy of Trial Attorneys of which he was a past President. He was invited to become an Associate Advocate of the American Board of Trial Advocates and serves as Trustee for the Ohio Chapter. He was also invited to become a Fellow in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and serves as the State Chair. He serves on the Board of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation and the Board of Visitors for C-M College of Law.

Many organizations have honored David for his engagement and leadership. He was inducted into the C-M College of Law Hall of Fame in 2017; voted the C-M College of Law Alumni of the year in 2011; and chosen as the CSU Distinguished Alumni of the year in 2010. He has also been named to the National Trial Lawyers Top 100; Best Lawyers since 2008 for Plaintiffs Personal Injury Litigation; “Lawyer of the Year” for the Cleveland Metro Region in the Area of Plaintiffs Personal Injury Litigation by Best Lawyers; and has been included as an Ohio Super Lawyer since 2004. He has written and enjoys speaking on a variety of topics in his field.

David lives in Moreland Hills, Ohio with his wife, Hon. Michelle L. Paris. When they are not immersed in the law, they enjoy riding his Harley through the countryside (here and abroad) and downhill skiing with their daughters and sons-in-law, Dana, Max, Lauren and Daniel.

Mario C. Ciano
Former Managing Partner, Reminger

My most rewarding work has been in the area of private placement adoption. I have privately placed children for friends, colleagues and clients for the past 20 years, guiding them through the agency and probate court to ensure each child would be united with its adopted parents at birth.

Mario served as Managing Partner of Reminger Co., L.P.A. from 1990 to 2005. A few of his many accomplishments include his vision to successfully expand Reminger from 45 attorneys in two offices to over 125 attorneys in eight offices. An Italian immigrant, Mario's hard work, entrepreneurial spirit and sense of fairness makes him a frequently requested mediator by both plaintiff and defense attorneys for complex litigation matters.

Mario has always maintained an eclectic legal practice. He enjoys representing businesses and professionals including attorneys, doctors and accountants. In fact, he is frequently hired by other attorneys to assist them or help resolve their own legal matters.

Mario has been recognized and included among the 'Best Lawyers in America' for the last ten years. He has been a featured 'Leading Lawyers' by Inside Business Magazine and is a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel and Defense Research Institute. He is also a faculty fellow for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and a life delegate of the Eighth Ohio Judicial District. He frequently lectures to peer groups on various trial, litigation, professional liability issues, and alternative fee arrangements.

Reminger is a member of the ORT Chai Society: They have supported the Jurisprudence Award for 18 years.
