Amjhad Abu Mosla
Kfar Silver helped me realize my identity as an Israeli Arab, and gave me a sense of pride in exploring new interests, developing critical skills, and discovering exactly who I am.
My name is Amjhad Abu Mosla and I am 17 years old. I have been studying at Kfar Silver for the last five years. In Rahat, the Bedouin Village where I grew up, my life was very different than it is here at Kfar Silver Youth Village.
When I began living and studying here in the eighth grade, I barely knew Hebrew. It was very difficult for me. With the full support of all of the teachers and students here, I became fluent. After learning Hebrew, I started excelling in all of my classes and made all of my teachers proud. I am proud of what I have accomplished, and I know it will help me in all aspects of my life.
I love the atmosphere here at school, including the open space and the ability to work with animals on the farm. My brother Karem also studied here and has now graduated. He is currently volunteering in the IDF.
Here, our student body is very diverse. I have friends from a range of different cultures. I am proud to say that students get to learn about my culture during our annual Bedouin Culture Day celebrations. Students get to taste special Bedouin food and experience highlights of my culture.
If I had not come to Kfar Silver, my life would have been completely different. Kfar Silver helped me realize my identity as an Israeli Arab, and gave me a sense of pride in knowing exactly who I am.
I love learning about civics and politics. It has helped to change my political views and I have gotten a stronger sense of the Knesset and how it works.
Since I have been here, I have discovered new interests. Three years ago, Kfar Silver sent me to participate in a national theater course in Tel Aviv, and ever since then I realized that I would love to study and pursue acting when I grow up. You never know, you might see me in the movies one day!
